MIRIMIRI @ Rangi Parauri

Kia ora whānau. I was stoked to be able to share Mirimiri at the Mahi a Atua, Te Kurahuna Rangi Parauri Wānanga a few weeks back at Pākowhai marae in Gisborne, Aotearoa and run a couple of workshops with Bronwyn Williams.

Kia ora e te whānau whānui,

What a transformative week we’ve had with Dr. Di, Paapa Mark Kopua, and the inspiring Mahi a Atua crew. Bronwyn and I had the mahi of sharing Mirimiri with nearly every tauira who attended the wānanga, and I’m filled with gratitude for being able to tailor each session uniquely to every whaiora. It was deeply fulfilling to immerse so many in our traditional body practices, truly enriching the wairua.

My journey to Gisborne from Levin was an adventure in itself, marked by memorable stops like the local dairy in Raupunga for a Paua pie and Hangi. And upon arriving the nights were filled with laughter and memories. I guess my attempt at my world famous Milli-Vanilli dance moves certainly brought on the belly laughs. IYKYK.

I must extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a part in this incredible haerenga. My brother and sisters for the car use and their unwavering support on the road. To Iriaka and Tākuta, for lending their Mirimiri table. A huge thank you to Paapa Mark and Dr. Di Kopua for once again creating such a meaningful week, and to the entire Mahi a Atua crew for their passion and dedication. Special thanks to Carol and Pani Paora for being Mum and Dad lol and their nurturing presence, always there when needed with a laugh or a guiding word. And of course, immense love to Richelle, the kids, and our moko for simply being who they need to be.

Mauri Mirimiri,

Raised in a home surrounded by Mirimiri practitioners we pass on our maramatanga to our tamariki and by hosting regular wānanga and workshops.”
